Marty is a lazy monkey who lives in the jungle with his parents. He has
two friends, Candy the caterpillar and Jeffrey the elephant. They like to
propose different plans to Marty, but he always rejects them because he prefers
to doze on his own. Ms Peanuts is Marty´s mother, and she also tries to
encourage Marty to do something different than sleeping. As Marty ignores her,
she is very worried about Marty (she thinks he is never going to be an
important and respectable animal in the jungle). The old owl is one of the most
ancient animals of the whole jungle. Each time he sees Marty, he warns him
about the dangers of being lazy and not becoming an important jungle animal.
One day, while Marty was sleeping near a clearing, a terrible storm
comes near the jungle. Marty´s friends and family recommend him not to sleep,
because being asleep while the storm was happening was too dangerous. They
recommend him to look for a shelter. Marty, as usually, ignores them and he
starts sleeping. The storm comes and one lightning strikes a tree near Marty
and causes a big fire that starts burning everything that surrounds Marty.
Candy and Jeffrey risk their lives to save Marty and, with a very big effort Jeffrey
puts out the fire with the water he carries in his trunk. After this scary
experience Marty learns that sleeping all the time has no sense and he realizes
life is much funnier when you spend your time with your family and friends
doing interesting things.

Candy the caterpillar arrives to propose Marty to climb the highest trees of
the jungle. Marty refuses her invitation saying he is too tired to do these
things. Candy leaves the pond quite sad.
-
Scene 3: This
scene happens in Marty's garden. Jeffrey the elephant arrives and ask Marty to

his trunk. Marty refuses saying he cannot climb so high because he prefers to
sunbathe on his garden. Jeffrey leaves the garden with a sad look.

Scene 4: The

-
Scene 5: All the
characters are in the pond. They warn each other about a big storm that is
getting near the jungle. They want to join and look for a shelter but Marty

Marty's behavior and they decide to leave him on his own.

Scene 6: Marty
is sleeping near the clearing. The storm comes. Is dangerous, scary and big. A huge
lightning strikes a tree and a fire starts burning everything around Marty. He

trunk as a hose full of water.

Scene 7: All the
characters are at Marty's place. Marty is in bed in bandages and plasters. The
other characters ask him if he has learnt the lesson. Marty nods and adds that being
lazy is not only boring but also dangerous. He promises that from now on he is
going to be a hardworking, active and playful monkey.
I like your play to be acted by my pupils from grade 6 for children from 1st to 4th grade. We could add some more characters like a family of hippos in the pond. There are twenty students in my class and most of them would love to be on the stage.
ReplyDeleteWe can also ask the Arts and Craft teacher for help with decoration or masks. Some pupils could also look for "sounds from the jungle" on the internet and use them to add more effects to the atmosphere.
Nice job. I like how well organised and clear the scenes are and the idea of including a moral idea at the end of the play. I also appreciate the way the character are clearly defined. As some people have commented I would also include some more characters.
ReplyDeleteApart from that I can see this play performed by third graders as the sense of the play can be understood by children of that age.
I think the story is very suitable for this age group because animals appeal them a lot. The moral is very appropiate for the children we have nowdays that spend too much time watching TV and playing videogames.
ReplyDeleteI think the moral is great. It is a good play to teach students how important is the effort and what the consequences of being lazy are. When you don´t make an effort it is not only you but it also affects the people around you. In this case other animals put their lives at risk for Marty. Good lesson!
